Playing with textures & brush strokes

As an artist having a few different brush strokes or textures you can fall back on is an advantage, you never know when you can use them , have you ever been half way through a painting then thought what can I do to really make this piece of work different? Hopefully here are some tips you could use ! Have a sketch book or a file where you can have a play with colours, textures, brush strokes or even pieces of materials that can give you some fab effects!

It is also great to test your brushes out before you start , check that they are in good condition also that they are going to do what you want them to do .

check out on the internet or social platforms what other artists use , note down textures you particularly like the look of , remember though not to copy unless you have permission, see rules on copyright,

I will share with you my sketch book so it gives you an example of what you could do ! please feel free to comment, give me your thoughts, or even share ideas that you feel would be of interest.

Here are just a few textures I played with

Hope you find this helpful, you don’t have to be tidy it’s your own reference, I sometimes review to see what I could do to give certain effects in my art work! here are the notes I did to remind me of each texture or mark I made
